I wouldnt worry overmuch about a christening record you cant find - I have families with some christening records and some gaps - my problem, lost records or unchristened children - who knows.
Equally in my families you just dont get children called William if the father was called William, by that I mean the child would be Willie, Bill, Billy or if he had too many cousins called William he would be known by a nickname or a middle name. So is James actually your William?
Nothing you have said means it isnt your family - but of course you are right - nothing yet proves it is them either! The joys of geneology!!

I thought I found them in the 1851 Census living at
Smart's Wynd, Musselburgh. But don't know if it were my Taylor Family now
as This Taylor family had a daughter named Margaret Taylor born bet 1843 -
1844it would be possible as William and Agnes were married in May 1842. But
can't find a birth or christening for a Margaret Taylor with parents named
William Taylor and Agnes Paxton.

And in the 1851 Census they had a son named James aged about 2 but not a
William? I can't find a death for him, so am I trailing the correct Taylor
Family?

SO WERE THERE TWO WILLIAM AND AGNES TAYLOR FAMILIES LIVING IN MUSSELBURGH.

Any Information would be great
