I thought I'd optimistically update my URQUHART interests, in the hopes that
there may be some other URQUHART researchers around.

I have William URQUHART and Mary ROBERTSON - no date/location for marriage,
but their first child (that I'm aware of) was born in 1763 in Dalkeith,
Midlothian. No dates etc for William, but Mary ROBERTSON was born 2 Nov
1739, Dalkeith, Midlothian, dau of George ROBERTSON and Ann RESTOUN/RISTON.

Children of William URQUHART and Mary ROBERTSON were:

1. William URQUHART, born 16 Dec 1763; bap 18 Dec 1763, Dalkeith,
Midlothian.
OPR reads: "William URQUHART and Mary ROBERTSON had a son born 16th December
Bap'd the 18th called William, witnesses George ROBERTSON, Elder, & Robert
ROBERTSON his son"

2. John URQUHART, born 7 Feb 1766; bap 9 Feb 1766, Dalkeith, Midlothian.
OPR reads: "William URQUHART and Mary ROBISON had a son born 7 Febry and
baptized the 9 curr't. by the name of John. Witnesses George ROBISON and
Robert BURN."

3. Anne URQUHART, born 7 Aug 1767; bap 9 Aug 1767, Dalkeith, Midlothian.
OPR reads: "William URQUHART and Mary ROBERTSON had a Daughter born 7th
August and Baptized the 9th Current by the name of Anne. Witnesses George
ROBISON and Robert ROBISON."

4. Alexander URQUHART, born 31 Mar 1770; bap 8 Apr 1770, Dalkeith,
Midlothian.
OPR reads: "William URQUHART and Mary ROBERTSON had a son born 31st March
and baptized the 8th April thereafter by the name of Alexr. Witnesses
George Robertson & George FLETCHER"
(Alexander URQUHART became a Cork Cutter; he married Margaret KERR on 4 Jan
1788, South Leith, Midlothian, and the family eventually moved to Dundee).

5. Thomas URQUHART, born 22 Sep 1773; bap 27 Sep 1773, Dalkeith,
Midlothian.
OPR reads: "William URQUHART and Mary ROBERTSON had a son born 22 Sept and
baptised 27th instant by the name of Thomas, witnesses Thomas ROBISON and
Alexr URQUHART"

Apart from my ancestor, Alexander URQUHART (born 1770, above) I don't know
what happened to any of the children of William URQUHART and Mary ROBERTSON
(so if anyone knows...?). Incidentally, I did wonder if the Alexander
URQUHART who witnessed Thomas's baptism in 1773 may have been one of William
URQUHART's brothers.

To be honest, I'm completely stuck with my URQUHARTs, and would welcome any
help to discover the identity of William URQUHART's parents. I would guess
that William was born circa 1730/1740. Are there any burial registers for
Dalkeith and South Leith (these seem the most likely places for William
URQUHART's death)? Perhaps if I could find his burial, it might show his
age at death.
