There is a James and Annie Fitzsimmons on the 1901 census in Ince in Makerfield, Lancashire as
follows:
James Fitzsimmons, head, age: 32, occupation: colliery coal hewer (underground), born: Fifeshire,
Scotland
Annie Fitzsimmons, wife, age: 30, born: Wigan, Lancashire
James Fitzsimmons, son, age: 8, born: Wigan, Lancashire
Source Citation: Class: RG13; Piece: 3564; Folio: 30; Page: 51
The following birth is referenced in the FreeBMD:
Name: Ann Quigley
Year of Registration: 1871
Quarter of Registration: Apr-May-Jun
District: Wigan
County: Greater Manchester, Lancashire
Volume: 8c
Page: 32
Since her marriage registration to James Fitzsimmons indicates she was also known as Hourigan and
that she was a widow, it is likely that the son James is from Annie's first marriage. I found this
birth referenced in the FreeBMD which would appear to confirm that:
Name: James Hourigan
Year of Registration: 1892
Quarter of Registration: Oct-Nov-Dec
District: Wigan
County: Greater Manchester, Lancashire
Volume: 8c
Page: 75
Also from the FreeBMD, a probable first marriage as it has Ann Quigley and Charles Hourigan on the
same page:
Name: Ann Quigley
Year of Registration: 1889
Quarter of Registration: Apr-May-Jun
District: Houghton Le Spring
County: Durham
Volume: 10a
Page: 680
This is apparently verified with a Charles and Annie Hourigan on the 1891 census in Hetton-le-hole,
Durham as follows:
Charles Hourigan, head, age: 23, occupation: coal miner, born: Stockton, Durham
Annie Hourigan, wife, age: 20, born: Wigan, Lancashire
Sarah A. Hourigan, daughter, age: 10 months, born: Hetton-le-hole, Durham
Source Citation: Class: RG12; Piece: 4116; Folio 81; Page 40; GSU roll: 6099226
There is a death for a Charles Hourigan, age 27, that was registered in Houghton in the last quarter
of 1894. There is also a death for a Sarah Hourigan in Houghton in the first quarter of 1899.
I found this reference in the FreeBMD to a marriage for a James Quigley with Ann Sherridan on the
same page which might be Ann's parents:
Name: James Quigley
Year of Registration: 1858
Quarter of Registration: Jan-Feb-Mar
District: Wigan
County: Greater Manchester, Lancashire
Volume: 8c
Page: 92
On the 1881 census for Hetton-le-Hole, Durham, there is the following entry:
James Quigley, head, age: 47, occupation: coal miner, born: Lorelana, Ireland
Ann Quigley, wife, age: 41, born: Lorelana, Ireland
John Quigley, son, age: 22, occupation: coal miner, born: Wigan, Lancashire (census image actually
says Wigton)
Mary Quigley, daughter, age: 18, occupation: domestic servant, born: Wigan, Lancashire
Peter Quigley, son, age: 16, occupation: coal miner, born: Wigan, Lancashire
James Quigley, son, age: 13, occupation: coal miner, born: Wigan, Lancashire
Ann Quigley, daughter, age: 10, born: Wigan, Lancashire
Patrick Kogan, boarder , age: 26, occupation: coal miner, born: Painsher, Durham
John Cork, boarder , age: 22, occupation: coal miner, born: Sunderland, Durham
Source Citation: Class: RG11; Piece: 4975; Folio: 28; Page: 50; Line: ; GSU roll: 1342197
The family (without James) is in Wigan, Lancashire on the 1871 census (mistranscribed as Tingley at
Ancestry). Source Citation: Class: RG10; Piece: 3885; Folio: 106; Page: 5; GSU roll: 842036
The family (with James) is also in Wigan, Lancashire on the 1861 census. Source Citation: Class:
RG9; Piece: 2773; Folio: 48; Page: 35; GSU roll: 543027
I couldn't find anyone who fit well enough on the 1851 census.
The Fitzsimmons/Quigley marriage registration indicates that her father is deceased but her mother
isn't. I found a couple of possible entries on the 1901 census for her mother. One was for an Ann
Quigley who was in a workhouse in Lancashire while the other had an Ann Quigley listed as the
sister-in-law in the household of Thomas Duff in Bowling, Bradford, Yorkshire. I think the latter is
the more likely as I found a marriage referenced in the FreeBMD from the second quarter of 1856 in
Bradford that had a Thomas Duff and Mary Quigley on the same page. The 1861 census for Bowling,
Bradford, Yorkshire has a household consisting of:
Thomas Duff, age: 26, occupation: mason labourer, born: Ireland
Mary Duff, age: 26, occupation: worsted weaver, born: Ireland
Theresa Duff, age: 4 months, born: Bowling, Yorkshire
I'll send the images for the census to you off list.

Subject: [MIDLOTHIAN] QUIGHLEY/FITZIMMONS
Hello
I was wondering if anybody can help me I looking for some information
on the following
I have an Ann QUIGHLEY on my wife's tree who was born about 1870 I
know that she married James FITZIMMONS (born in fife in 1867) on 18
Dec 1899 at Dalkieth but do not know where she was born, I believe her
parents were John QUIGHLEY and Ann SHERDAN.
I have looked at the 1901 census on line at Scotlands people but can
not find her
Any help with the above family would be very much appreciated.
