Thanks for your help, Helen. The Edward in Aldershot has possibilities. The
only slight problem is his age as 22. As unreliable as he was in everything
else, Edward managed to keep his birth year consistent at 1861 (wrong but
consistent.) On the other hand, it could have been to his benefit to lie
about his age in order to enlist. I'll follow this one up.

I doubt the other Edward, the boarder, is the one because I've found Fanny
and Edward on other censuses.

All Prisons and Institutions are listed within each County, as are Army
Barracks also Royal Navy Ships in Port.
So he should be listed somewhere - I have found one possibility in
1881.
Note place of Birth given on the Census is not always accurate,
particularly once someone has left his parents.
