I've read somewhere that at some point in the 19th century large numbers of
people, largely paupers I think, were sent to the industrial areas of the
North of England by the Overseers of the Poor. Does anyone know when this was
happening? My 2xgt-grandmother and her illegitimate daughter came from Aldington
to Macclesfield in Cheshire sometime between 1851 and 1863 - would these
dates fit in and would there be any records if it does?
Regards
Dorothy
