Dear List,
I seem to get further with finding other peoples' trees than my own!
My Maternal grandfather's parents were John SIMPSON & Jane SCOTT. From their
marriage certificate ( March 28th, 1867, at St. Mary’s, Moreton, in the
parish of Moreton, Staffordshire.)
They are both described as being of ‘full’ age; John is a Labourer and Jane
is a Servant. At the time of the marriage, John gives his address as
Bromstead, and Jane as Gt. Chatwell. There is no Father’s name entered for John. Jane
’s father is John Scott, a Labourer.
Witnesses to the marriage were Abraham Anslow and Caroline Taylor.
I have Jane's birth certificate:

Entry 115. 17th January 1846, at Weston Heath, Sheriffhales: Jane, Girl;
Father John SCOTT, Mother Sarah SCOTT, formerly TAYLOR. X the Mark, of John
Scott, father, Weston Heath. Registered 6th February 1846. Registrar – William
Rodin.
Also John's (nearest match so far, anyway):

15th March 1844, at Newport: John, Boy, Father George Simpson, Labourer;
Mother Elizabeth Simpson, formerly WICKSTEAD; Registered by Elizabeth Simpson (X
her mark), Mother, at Newport, 25th March 1844; registrar Benjamin Rees.
I have 'trawled' for Sarah SCOTT, nee TAYLOR in both BMD and censuses (1861
Staffs., 1871 Salop & Staffs, etc.) - I have the 1841 for the area around
Gnosall, which includes Shifnal and Sheriffhales in that year , but with no
results that really 'fit'. So that's as far as I have got with my grandad's line.
Can anybody give me a hand please?
Best Wishes, Penny
