Hi Grace -

Yes, the information you get online from Genesee County Clerks office is just record of information/numbers showing that the person died in Gen. Co. and their death was filed in Gen. Co.
You can get the actual death certificate from either the Genesee County Clerks office or the genealogy society.
There is also supposed to be a state record in Lansing. I have never gotten one from there maybe someone else can help you with that contact information.
I did find this site for state records but I have never used it - does anyone else know if this is the correct place?
