I don't believe so. There were Pietala's out here in oregon/washington. Peterson would come from someone's first name being the finnish equivilent of Peter(Pehr?) while I believe Pietala would be a farm name or other surname.of course if the Pietala's first name were the finnish equivilent of peter, then the children might become peterson.
