Luedders, Arthur Raymond Haslett, MI Age 96, passed away November 29, 2004. Born December 7, 1907, he grew up in Marshall, MI, where he attended high school, Battle Creek College and Argubright Business College. He worked 35 years in purchasing for Oldsmobile in Lansing, retiring in 1969. From that day forward, de dedicated his life to his passions. An avid patron of the arts and collector of antiques, decorative glass, ceramics, books, fine art and world travel, he was also a composer of art songs, a lecturer, editor and writer-publishing several books including "75 Years of Performing Arts at Michigan State University" in 1987. He held membership in the international Wedgwood Society (also serving as president). He was considered an authority on Wedgwood's 'Hercules" ceramics and was named a Fellow of the British Royal Society of Arts in 1974. He was also active in the Mid-States Ceramic Study group, the Bergstrom-Mahler Museum, the Henry Ford Museum Glass Collection, the !
Paperweight Collectors Association and the National Early American Glass Club. Locally, he served on the board of Lansing Symphony, was among the founders of the Lansing Arts Gallery and the Wharton Center Inner Circle of volunteers, serving in every area-especially the Gift Shop, tour guides and as president in 1991-1992. The annual volunteer of the year award was named after Arthur Luedders, who received the first such accolade in 1988-1989. He was also an expert photographer, gardener and archivist. He treasured his extended family, including surviving sisters Joyce of Ocala, FL and Lois of Anniston, AL, and many friends, who will miss him greatly. He was preceded in death by his life partner of 65 years, Walter Kachelski, in 1999.
