Hi, I know this is 7 years old but I thought if you were still interested maybe you could contact me. .
My great grandmother was a Porter (Dorothy M. Porter) and lived in Williamston when I was young. I don't exactly know who her parents are and also don't know if her name "Porter" was a married name or her maiden name. It's almost doubtful there is a connection but I have so many questions unanswered...
