I am very much interested in finding out who this Henry Wyman is.? Anyone have some good suggestions.?
What newspapers should I check into?? I am assuming Lansing's papers and perhaps Mason's [did they have a newspaper in 1888?], and also Jackson's newspapers.? Is their a website listing what newspapers for those areas was available in 1888 and are accessable today?

Lansing, MI - Jan 9
A Beast that narrowly escapes lynching by an infuriated populace - Company of Militia called out -
A painter named Henry Wyman who lives at Jackson, was charged here Friday night on a charge of commiting a cruel assault
The matter became quickly noisy and threats of lynching were soon made.
Deputy Sheriff Van Buren decided to have the prisoner moved to the County jail in Mason.? He was taken to the North Lansing depot and put into the baggage care of the south bound train.? At the Union depot a big crowd of excited men gathered and forced their way into the car.? Wyman was dragged into the smoking car.? The indignant citizens made a charge upon it, but officer Bears [?], who was in the car took in the situation at a glance, sprang to the door of the car with a revolver in his hand, while Bates guarded the other door, also with a cocked revolver and they kept the crowd at bay til the train moved off.? Several windows of the car were smashed.? At Mason the excitement was not less intense, and the Sheriff learned that a crowd was coming from Lansing.? Co. F of the State Troops were called on and guarded the jail all Friday night.? There are still mutterings of trouble.? Wyman asserts his innocence, and his young wife who came down believes in him
