Died Friday morning February 4, 2005. Marie was born March 28, 1909 in Grand Island, Nebraska, a daughter of William W. and Nettie M. (Sharp) Purvis. She had been a Kalamazoo area resident since the 1920's and was a first grade teacher at Wilson Elementary School for 20 years, retiring in 1974. Marie had a special love for her grandchildren and great-grandsons. She took much pride and joy in their accomplishments and daily activities. She loved her flower garden and liked traveling. Marie was a member of Bethel Reformed Church where she was very active in her Church Circle and many church functions. Bethel Reformed Church has always been an integral part of her life. She was also a volunteer with Loaves and Fishes, and Borgess Nursing Home. Marie will be remembered as being gentle, kind, supportive and thoughtful of others. She was preceded in death by her parents; and her husband, Edgar Brandt on July 7, 1976. She is survived by a son, William E. (Judith L.) Brandt of Port!
age; 2 grandchildren, Amy (Bill) Strzynski of St. Joseph, MI and Dave (Cathe) Brandt of Minneapolis, MN; 2 great-grandchildren, Graham E. Strzynski and Colin P. Brandt; and several cousins. Services will be held 1 o'clock Monday at Bethel Reformed Church, 1003 Gayle Ave. Visitation will be 2-4 pm Sunday at the Langeland Family Funeral Homes, Memorial Chapel, 622 S. Burdick St. Interment will be in Mt. Ever-Rest Cemetery. Memorials may be directed to Bethel Reformed Church.
