POOL, Mr. Eltjo "Al"
Of Kalamazoo

Passed away Wednesday, March 23, 2005 at the Battle Creek VA Hospital. Al was born May 20, 1921 in Kalamazoo, the son of Roy and Elsie (Zomer) Pool, and has been a lifelong resident. During WW II he served in the U.S. Army overseas, where he received 2 Purple Hearts, 3 Campaign Stars, 3 Bronze Stars and the Silver Star. Al was a member of the 37th Division Veteran Association, Order of the Purple Heart; Portage VFW Post #5855; DAV Buck Crosby Chapter #6, and was a former Masonic Lodge member. He was employed by The Upjohn Company for 35 years prior to his retirement, and recently became a member of the Prairie Baptist Church. On October 19, 1941 he was united in marriage to the former Norma Kiggins, who preceded him in death on July 23, 1995. He was also preceded in death by 2 sisters, Hilda Cole and Clara Pool-Sorenson. Surviving are his son, Eltjo A. Pool; his daughter, Louise E. (Gene) Ferguson of Climax; 4 grandchildren, Alex "Buck" Pool, Derek "Shorty" Pool, Stacey Ferg!
uson and Stephanie Ferguson; 3 great-grandchildren; 2 brothers, Roy S. Pool Jr. and Samuel Pool; several nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends on Monday from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. at the Langeland Family Funeral Homes, Memorial Chapel, 622 S. Burdick St. where Funeral Services will be held 4:00 p.m. Tuesday with Pastor Thomas Harrison officiating. Interment with full military honors by Comstock VFW Post #6252 will follow in Mt. Ever-Rest Cemetery. Memorials in Al's memory may be directed to the Prairie Baptist Church - Mission Fund.
