Death Overtakes Aged Resident
John Emery Pierce who has been a resident of Kalamazoo county for the last 79 years passed away at his home southwest of Climax last Saturday after a short illness of two days.

Mr. Pierce was born at Genesee Co., NY, December 12, 1823 where he lived with his parents, Lawrence and Clarissa Pierce until the age of thirteen years when they moved to Michigan.

On August 26, 1856 he was wedded to Catherine A. Cook at Marshall, later going to Galesburg where they spent the ealier part of their life being engaged in the merchantile business and was also at one time postmaster of the Galesburg office.

The latter part of his life he has been a farmer of Climax Township.

He leaves to mourn his loss beside a a host of friends and relatives, a wife, 3 sons, Fred of Battle Creek, Bently of Kalamazoo, Emmet of Galesburg and two daughters, Mrs. Daniel Lawrence of Climax, and Mrs. Alma Cary of Lansing, also a sister, Mrs. Mary Taylor.

The funeral was held at the home by Rev. C. H. Pamatier; Interment in Climax Cemetery.
