Joseph P. DEVINE Jr. - 6645 Rothbury, Portage, Joe was born to Joseph and Anna (WARNOCK) DEVINE Sr. on February 7, 1928, in Providence, RI. He served as a Corporal in the US Army during World War II and taught at Kalamazoo Valley Community College. Joe was an active member of St. Catherine of Siena Catholic Church and had been a trainer in Ministry Formation for the Diocese of Kalamazoo since 1985. He established the Kalamazoo County Jail Rehabilitation program in 1972 and the Kalamazoo Institute of Human Resource Development in 1975. Joe has been active in consulting and interpersonal skills training, and has been in the business of developing people for over 30 years. He received his MA from Notre Dame and specialty Certificates from Purdue University, American International College, and Los Angeles State. Joe had worked in four foreign countries and all parts of the United States, and had been Superintendent of two Public School Systems and a State Training School. !
He was united in marriage to Janet (KISTLER) DEVINE June 19, 1954 in Kalamazoo, MI. They were blessed with 6 children and spouses, Michelle and Michael MUNN of Sylvania, OH, Patrick and Debbie DEVINE of Charlotte, NC, Susan DEVINE of Benicia, CA, John and Ann "Mac" DEVINE of Costa Mesa, CA, Karen and Jeff TOWNSEND of Kalamazoo, and Diane DEVINE and her fiancé, Phil SALINAS of Grand Rapids. His family also includes 2 sisters, Ann SHERLOCK and her husband Paul of Warwick, RI, and Eileen PRYOR of Jamestown, RI; 8 grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. Joe died at his home on Thursday morning, October 17, 1996. He was preceded in death by a sister, Clare MC ELROY. Friends may visit with his family and celebrate his life from 2-4 & 6-9 PM Sunday at the Rupert, Durham, Marshall & Gren Funeral Home, Portage chapel, where a Prayer Service will be held at 8 PM Sunday. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 11:00 AM Monday at St. Catherine of Siena Church, 1150 W!
