Mr. Stroup passed away on Sunday, July 29, 2007 following an extended illness. He was born April 1, 1924 in Anderson, IN, the son of Clifford and Hazel (Gardner) Stroup. He married R. Luanne Everett on April 22, 1944. Mr. Stroup was preceded in death by his daughter, Kathy Sue Hice in 1990 and his sister, Phyllis Moran. He retired in 1987, from Western Michigan University where he was employed as the Director of Student Activities. He was also employed at Battle Creek Lakeview High School for 20 years where he served as a teacher, counselor and track and cross-country coach. He attained his BA from Drake University where he was a member of their track team and Sigma Phi Epsilon. He received his master's degree from Western Michigan University. Mr. Stroup proudly served in WW II as a Sgt. in the United States Army where he earned a bronze star. Surviving is his devoted wife of 63 years, R. Luanne Stroup of Brighton, MI; one son, Michael (Lynn) Stroup of Brighton, MI; two gra!
ndsons, Stephen of Brighton, MI and Scott of San Antonio, TX; one brother, Phillip (Mattie) Stroup of Greenfield, IN and brother-in-law, Dan Moran of Columbus, OH. Visitation Thursday, August 2, 2007, 2 to 4 PM with the funeral service at 4 PM at the KEEHN FUNERAL HOME, 706 W. Main St., Brighton, MI 48116 (810-229-9871) with Rev. Fred Finzer, officiating. Burial Friday, August 3, 2007, 11AM at Fort Custer National Cemetery, Augusta, MI. The family suggests that memorial contributions be made to Western Michigan University Athletic Department, "Gary Fund" in Mr. Stroup's name.
