Headquarters - Custer - Post No #5 is where his pension papers came out of.

His service was with Michigan Volunteers Enlisted in company B. Firth Calvary
as Quartermaster Sergeant, August 30, 1862, at Grand Rapids for 3 years, age
24. Mustered August 27, 1862. Promoted First Sergeant. Mustered out at Fort
Leavenworth Kansas, June 20, 1862.
