Hi All,
I have just begun looking into my Stephens family, who apparently emigrated
from Cornwall to Eagle River via Wisconsin.
Some of the confirmation I have so far is from the 1870 Keweenaw County
census. The occupancy is in "Clifton". Can someone tell me where Clifton
is, is it associated with the Cliff Mine? There is a John B. Stephens who
was killed in the Cliff Mine buried in the Evergreen Cemetery in Eagle River
that I suspect belongs to this clan.
Here's what I know:
1. JAMES STEPHENS was born in Cornwall, England. He married ELIZABETH.
She was born Abt. 1829 in Cornwall, England.
Children of JAMES STEPHENS and ELIZABETH are:
i. WILLIAM R.2 STEPHENS, b. 1848, Wisconsin.
ii. ELIZABETH STEPHENS, b. 1851, Wisconsin; d. December 19, 1928, Marquette,
Michigan.
iii. JOHANNA STEPHENS, b. 1852, Wisconsin.
iv. JOSEPH STEPHENS, b. 1857, Wisconsin.
v. THOMAS STEPHENS, b. 1863, Wisconsin.
vi. ANNA STEPHENS, b. 1865, Michigan.
2. ELIZABETH STEPHENS (JAMES1) was born 1851 in Wisconsin, and died December
19, 1928 in Marquette, Michigan. She married JOSEPH MARTIN February 02, 1867
in Eagle River, Michigan. He was born 1846 in Cornwall, England, and died
November 23, 1922 in Ishpeming, Michigan.
Thanks!
