Subject: [MIKEWEEN] NURMI ...JUNTTONEN
Date: Wed, 30 Oct 2002 08:46:58 -0500
Hi List,
I have been looking for the Nurmi name for Sanna in Finland and have finally
decided to ask the list for help.
Father : Aappo Nurmi, born 9.1.1867, died 10 - 2- 1914, Hancock, MI.
Mother : Maria Sofia Nurmi, born 1-2-1881, died 11 - 20 -1913, Hancock, MI.
Son : (only child) Aappo Nurmi Jr., born 8 - 24 - 1905.......
The above people came here from Finland , they both died leaving Aappo an
orphan when he was 9 years old.I have talked to the
Gloria Dae church and they have a burial record for Aappo Sr. but it reveals
nothing on where the child went. I have been looking
through the 1920 census, he would be about 15 then to see if i can see
step-son or cousin etc.entered in any Junttonen
families on the census. He traveled here with the Junttonen's on the ship
from Finland in 1908. Some of thier first names are
Juho (John), Martta and Herman. Using the soundex on the 1920 census and a
varitey of Junttonen spellings , there are ALOT
of them ! The task is daunting to look at every entry.
To those of you who subscribe to the census, i ask that as you look through
the pages to keep an eye out for this child. He may
be under Abel, Abram or Abraham etc. I am not 100% sure the Junttonen's
took him in but it is a good bet. He is not on the
SSDI index.
If you know any Junttonen's , please ask "nicely" if they know of this
event. There are also Nurmi names on the census, may
be misspelled Nermi or Niemi which there are many.
If you spot anything on the census, write down what page, ED# and county. I
appreciate any help with this mystery.
Alicia
