Subject: [MIKSCH-L] New info on the Miksch family

Hello, everyone. I know the Miksch forum has been
dormant for a while, but I have been adding a lot of
new material to my database, and will be putting out
much new material onto the forum in the coming weeks.
I have just returned from a trip back east, and had a
chance to do some genealogy in Northampton County PA
and Tuscarawas County, Ohio. I also visited Grace
Hill, Iowa and Lititz, PA. Among the new Miksch
material is the following:

1. At the Moravian archives in Bethlehem I collected
several autobiographies or Lebenslauf, including one
for Michael Miksch and also some for several of his
children. They are written in German, so I will need
to get them translated. A quick review in my very
limited German shows that we probably have most of the
info in Michaels lebenslauf. Unless someone on the
Miksch list knows German well enough to translate, I
will go try to get them translated on my own.

2. A book written in German at the Nazareth historical
society gave info about four different Miksch
emigrants to Herrnhutt, including Matthias, father of
John Matthew Miksch of Salem, his nephew Thomas who
was a missionary at Labrador, Michael Miksch, and
Johannes Miksch. I already had an English translation
of this material, but had not previously had a source
for it. Unfortunately it does not prove a linkage
between Michael and the other Mikschs. This book has a
map showing Kunvald, Moravia as well as several other
towns nearby where many of the Herrnhut leaders came
from. I also got a second map of this Kunvald from the
Moravian archives. The archivist said that since
Michael Miksch came from Kunvald Moravia that this
meant that Michael was not from the Kunvald in Bohemia
but rather the one which is near Fulneck, Moravia.

3. I collected a lot of Miksch obituaries from the
archives and also from the Nazareth historical
society. One of the most interesting ones was that of
Mary Ann Miksch, wife of Jesse Vogler. It has a lot
about their missionary work with the Indians of New
Fairfield, Ontario. Michael Mikschs grandson by
Nathaniel, John Christian Miksch born 1793, was also a
missionary there.

4. I have finally been able to prove that Hannah
Warner who married John G. Fox and moved to
Gnadenhutten was one of the two missing daughters of
Massah Warner and Maria Dorothea Miksch. I collected a
lot of material on her descendants.

5. In Tuscarawas county, the library at Dennison had a
Miksch line that none of us had. Emmanuel Miksch was a
son of John Fredericks son Abraham, who died at the
age of 30. A descendancy chart at the library gives me
an address where I can probably get more info.

6. I found a very interesting history of the Moravian
Church by Ami Bost. It told a lot about the area near
Kunvald and the Moravians there; it also told a lot
about the church structure and customs in the Czech
Republic before the 30 years war.

7. I found a death record for Elizabeth Huber who
married John Frederick Miksch, with new information.
The death record says that she was born in Lancaster
County, but the earlier church records say she was
born in York, so there is still conflicting info. The
info states that she was baptized and confirmed in the
Reformed Church, and that she joined the Moravian
church after moving to Lititz to live with an aunt,
about 1800.
