One of the list members working on a Robert MILLER of Pendleton Dist SC may
find this interesting. From MILLER FAMILY OF ORANGE COUNTY by Boyce Miller.
"The late W.H. MILLER of Richmond, Kentucky, in his admirable work on
the MILLER family entitled HISTORY and GENEALOGIES, states in error that
Robert MILLER Jr.., enlisted in 1777 as a private soldier in Captain Nathan
Reid's Company of the 14th Virginia Regiment, and that he re-enlisted for the
duration of the was in 1778, again as a private. The above military record
applies to another Robert MILLER from Pendleton District, South Carolina,
whose record is on file in detail in the Veterans Administration, and the
Pension Office in Washington, and a comparison of the two Robert MILLERS
reveals that they could not possibly be one and the same person, as for
example: Robert MILLER Jr. resided in Orange County VA., whereas the other
resided in Pendleton District, SC; Robert MILLER JR. was born in 1734,
whereas the War records show that Robert of SC was 63 years of age in 1820,
and was therefore born about 1757; Robert MILLER Jr.'s wife was christened
Margaret, whereas the wife of Robert of SC was named Annis; Robert MILLER Jr.
was serving in the Orange Co Minute Men at the same times that Robert of SC
was serving in the 14th Virginia Regiment; Robert of SC is mentioned as
having a son named Squire who was 17 years of age in 1820, wheras Robert
MILLER Jr. apparently had no son by that name; and, lastly, the records of
Orange Co VA show conclusively that Robert MILLER Jr. died in 1806, whereas
the records of the Pension Office show that Robert MILLER of SC was
petitioning for a pension, and therefore still living, in the year 1820."
Since it is so hard to sort out the numerous MILLERS, I thought this may be
important to someone.
