A Potter's field is where someone is buried at county expense because
the next of kin either does not exist or cannot afford the burial. It is
usually part of a church cemetery or some other cemetery that the county
owns part of.

I would check with the county clerk to see where the present county
burials are made and how long it has been used. Headstones or other
markings are generally not used and the sole record is a notation in
county records as to what plot the burial is in.
