Surname: Tjietjema, Smit, Mulder, Tuinier, deVree, Ypma, Hubers

My g.great grandfather, Tjietje Tjietjema, came to Ottawa Co.,MI circa
1868-70, after leaving Friesland,Netherlands in 1854. He was in the Elkhart,Indiana
area from 1854-68,where his 5 surviving children were born. Two daughters
were born in Friesland, but did not live past 2 yrs. of age.
Tjietje married Martjen Geerts Tuinier on 9 January,1850, in Gaasterland,Friesland,
Netherlands.
Tjietje & Martje had 3 sons (Sietse,Jan & Willem) and
2 daughters (Fetje & Anna). Willem died in 1900, unmarried.
The remaining 4 children all got married in Ottawa Co.,MI
Sietse and Jan both married women whose surname was Smit, but who were
NOT sisters. Fetje [Frances]married Roelof Roo
in 1876. Anna married Hendrik Steffens in 1881
Sietse married Wobbigje Smit, dau. of Jan Smit in 1876. Tjietje married
Huberta Smit, dau. of Willem Smit & Folkertje deVree,in 1880 (Willem Smit's
parents were Conraad Smit & Huberta Hubers from Zwolle,Overijssel) (Folkertje
deVree's parents were Klaas deVree & Jeltje Annes Ypma from Sexberium,Friesland).

I have a copy of marriage certificate of Tjietje & Martje, which I found
when I visited Friesland in 1998. I will share
all research I have for any of these families.
