Did you ever find any information out? I have a lot of Emery family history dating back to England in 1548 but because I only followed my families line - I don't have a John in the late 1800 to early 1900's listed. I'm thinking it might be an offshoot of a different branch of the 'tree' because the name John and Bertha are fairly common. I thought if you had more info about John's parents I might be able to connect him in.
