Hi....Thanks for offering but I do not need to get anything from the Saginaw
County Courthouse at this time. I was contacted recently by someone
requesting help online and I told them about the RAOGK site....volunteers who do
research for no charge. I used to be one for Saginaw and Lapeer County but have
moved to Mason County, Ludington, to be near my son and his young family. I
still have a few records of township cemeteries plus a Taymouth Twp. History
publication that I can check for information in Saginaw County and quite a
large number of published material for Lapeer County which I am always willing
to check for people who are searching in those areas. I have informed sites
which still list my address, etc. but they have been slow in changing their
contact information.
I am not surprised about the County office changes for research.
There were two ladies who worked there and were always very friendly to the
researchers....one was a former President of our Saginaw Society and the other
was her friend and understood our need to know about our ancestors. I can
understand their concern about giving out information which can be used
illegally, but perhaps it would help if we each signed a paper giving our license
numbers, etc. so if there were ever any problems, they would have an identity.
This is required at the Lapeer County Office each time it is used by any
researcher. Records should be open each day of the week. Many counties set up
extremely limited hours and when others from other states arrive on the wrong
day, they are disappointed by the restrictions. Perhaps we should ask our
legislators to sponsor a Michigan Bill that gives the genealogist unrestricted
and unlimited use to the early birth, death, and marriage records, or at least
put them online as some County Clerks have done for easy reference.
Thank you, again !! Your service to other genealogists is invaluable and
much appreciated !!
Diane
