I have noticed that many of the Chase names found around Saint Clair County are listed as "BLACK" Can anyone tell me if some of these familys could have been Indian decent, and was listed as Black? I have heard that this has happened on a lot of the very old census records and other records. My Chase family has Indian decent so hope someone can clear this up for me. I found 2 Ernest Chase names burried in Saint Clair, and the one is my Gr. Grandfather, but can not find anything else on the second Ernest Chase. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
