"Death of a Former St. Clair Resident - Mrs. Betsey Willoughby, whose maiden name was Betsey French, died at Big Rapids, Mich., Oct. 12, 1888. She was born in Grafton Co., N. H., September 20, 1800, and was married to Drury F. Willoughby at Haverhill in that state, May 1, 1827. Mr. and Mrs. Willoughby moved to St. Clair in 1842 and remained here until 1854 when they moved to the township of Wales where they cleared up a farm, living there altogether about twenty-five years. They then sold out and moved to Big Rapids where Mr. Willoughby died after they had lived there about four years, the widow continuing to live there until her death as noted above. They buried their oldest child, Anna Mary, many years ago in St. Clair. Their second daughter and only son died and were buried in Wales. One daughter, two grand children, a sister, Mrs. Mahala McConnel, who resides in this city, and two brothers residing in Haverhill, N. H., survive her. She was very vigorous, never hav!
ing been sick until she received the news of a son-in-law's death which prostrated her and from which it is supposed she never fully recovered." St. Clair (City) Republican, Nov. 1, 1888
