Hello to everyone on the Washtenaw List:

I am James Smith Benton, born in Ann Arbor in 1945, and descendant of the
Bentons which were in Lodi Plains and Lima Township (nr. Dexter) from the
1828s to quite recently. The relatives I am seeking to correspond about are

Eli Benton, Lodi Plains

John Lowry (brother of Eli's wife), Lodi Plains

Elijah Benton, Lima Township. He was father of Eli Benton of Lodi Plains
and also of Elijah Buel Benton of Lima. (Eli/Elijah was rather a favorite
name in the family). Elijah and his son Elijah Buel Benton settled a farm
on Dancer Road, just west of Dexter -- the farm house is in the last stages
of decay.

Willis Benton, son of Elijah Buel Benton, who I believe also had a farm in
Lima Ts.

Mary Benton, who died in 1871 after having been a school teacher
(elementary) in the area.

Wendell Wiltsie, Capt Co E 23rd MI Vol Infantry in the CW. Married a dau.
of Eli Benton, killed in action.

There are others, but perhaps this will be a beginning. I am particularly
interested in maps which show where the farms of the Bentons and John Lowry,
and also would love to find descendants of these people.
