BRAUN - Donald R. 5/6/01
Donald R. Braun, a retired engineer and former Alden resident, died Saturday
(May 5, 2001) in Beaumont Hospital in Royal Oak, Mich., after a brief
illness. He was 69. Braun was born in Susquehanna, Pa., but spent most of his
early adult life in Alden, and in 1981 moved to the Detroit area. He
graduated from Alden High School in 1949, and Long Island Agricultural and
Technical Institute. Braun was a Korean War veteran and a member of the
American Legion. He spent his career building blast furnaces all over the
world. His favorite pastime was the study of history. He is survived by his
wife of 44 years, the former Helen Oestreich; three daughters, Barbara of
Waltham, Mass., Carol Larrison of Waterford, Mich., and Susan Honke of Wayne,
Mich.; a son, Robert of Bloomsburg, Pa.; a sister, Eleanor DeVoe of
Jamestown; and nine grandchildren. A wake will be held Monday in Uht's
Funeral Home, Westland, Mich. A memorial service will be held Tuesday in St.
Mary's Catholic Church in Wayne.
