Dear Barbara:

What you need to know is was the person you are looking for died in detroit
or did he/she in Wayne county but outside of Detroit. Detroit keeps separte
records for birth and death records. If the person died in Detroit you will
need to accesss Detroit Vital Records only. I don't know if FHC has them on
microfim but I know that at the Detroit Public Library they have all death
records on microfiche from I believe before 1900 right to 2002. What you
need to do is either contact the Burton Historical/Genealogical Collection
at the Detroit Public library and ask for a look up for 1900 to 1910 and see
if they can give you a Death Record number so that you can apply for the
death record. Also you can send to Detroit Vital Records for the death
record. What you need to remember is that Detroit keeps separate birth and
death records from Wayne County. You need to know where exactly the person
died in order to order a death record. So if you don't find it in the Wayne
County microfilm you will know then that the person actually died in the
City of Detroit.

I've been trying to locate the death record of an ancestor who died in 1903
in Detroit. I searched the Wayne Co. microfilm from the FHC but no luck and
also noticed that there were hardly any Detroit deaths listed compared to
other townships. Does anyone know if the FHC has microfilm for just the
Detroit area during this time period? I've tried to search the catalogue
online but all I keep coming up with is the Wayne Co. microfilm. I'm new at
searching the FHC records and am probably doing something wrong. Can anyone
