There is an Albert R. Northrop listed in the Michigan deaths at Ancestry.com.

Born 2 February 1910, died 5 January 1973 in Detroit, Wayne Co. and resided in Detroit, Wayne Co at time of death.

You can get a death certificate from the State of Michigan for $15.00.
