I looked at the Martin Welch in St. Clair and he was Martin B. He and his wife Anna were married 13 years in 1910 and had 5 children, with all 5 living at home. So, unless this was a second marriage for Martin and the middle initial is wrong, this is probably not the right family. Did the parents' names come from the delayed birth certificate?

Do you know if your grandmother worked and needed a birth certificate for social security or to collect from her husband's or to get a passport? Those are some reasons that I think of for a delayed birth certificate and after 50 years who knows what info is correct.

I think that I would try to get a baptismal record . Do you have a copy of the marriage record? Sometimes, a church marriage record will show where the person was baptized.

Did the family stay in the Wayne county area or did they move around? Have you found anyone, anywhere on the censuses?
