Before the 1930s, the Cass Lake, MN area originally had many lumber mills. One of the biggest was the J. Neils Lumber Company, which statrted in Sauk Rapids, MN. About 1925 the entire Neils operation was moved to Libby, MT. Our grandfather worked for and our family was close to the Neils family throughout their travels, after coming to the US. Cass Lake is somewhat difficult to get information about. You might try the Benton Co and Cass Lake historical socities. I ended up finding a 2nd cousin I didn't know we had in Benton, County MN that was also into Genealogy. If I can be of help, let me know ...
