A funeral was conducted for Benjamin IVES on 6 August 1866 in Farmington,
Dakota County, by Rev. Charles E. Thayer. The following obituary appears
in the 9 August 1866 (Thursday) Hastings Independent:
Fatal Accident. --- As Mr. Benjamin Ives, of Lakeville, was returning from
St. Paul, on Sunday last with a load of goods, he was thrown from his wagon
and so severely injured that he survived the accident but about five hours.
He was attended by Dr. L.P. Dodge, of Farmington.

According to our files, he is buried in the cemetery at what was known
as Akin's Grove, on county road 31 north of Farmington. This is also known
as the Farmington Presbyterian cemetery and it is where your Sewards are
buried. According to an article from the Dakota County Tribune in 1953,
his wife was buried there about 50 years before 1953.
