Bad Fire East of Walters
(Kiester Courier)
A new barn, 38 X 60 feet, with a fourteen foot full basement, is being erected on the H. DRESHER farm, near Conger, to replace the one destroyed by fire on Monday of last week. Ed KATZUNG of Kiester, father-in-law of Mr. DRESHER, was on the place several days last week helping to clean up the debris and haul out and bury carcasses of the twenty-four head of cattle and four horses which were burned to death in the barn. Among the animals lost was the prize - winning Guernsey heifer belonging to Miss Lillian KATZUNG, which took sweepstakes at the state fair last year and won prizes at the Freeborn county fair. The work of removing the ruins and burying so many carcasses was a huge task, Mr. KATZUNG says, and a sickening one as well. An insurance adjuster was at the place Tuesday and allowed Mr. DRESHER the full amount of insurance carried, $3,800.00
