Hi list I am searching for any information about the Hodges family in
Fairbault Co., MN. There is a John, and John Sr,. a Charles H. listed as C. H. in
1870 census, a George and a couple of others as heads of households or living in
the homes. This family is all born in Maine. John Sr. is listed as Josiah
in both Maine 1850, and Michigan 1860 census.
Charles H. Hodges is my gg grandfather and Josiah is my ggg frandfather.
Josiah is married to Nancy Hart and Charles is married to Mary Ellen Armstrong,
Mary Ellen Armstrong Hodges goes by the name of Ellen. Her mother and
daughter and granddaughter were all Mary Ellen's.
Also interested in the Armstrong family. Mary Ellen Armstrongs parents were
said to be George Armstrong and Mary Ellen Cline or Kline. I believe the name
is spelled Kline because of the stories that have passed down through the
generations. It is said that she was a small German woman. So the spelling
Kline makes sense to me.
George Armstrong lived to be almost 100 years old. He was born about 1813 in
England and died about 1823 in Unknown. The family story about him is that
at 98 years old he planted hoed and harvested a 1/2 acre of onions which he
sold.
The story about his wife Mary Ellen is that she faught off an Indian with hot
cornmeal mush. By throwing it at him by the spoonfull.
Don't know how true these stories are but they have passed down for at least
five generations.
Any information on these families would be greatly appreciated.
Deloris
