The influx of settlers in Minnesota in the 1850's was the result of the
Traverse des Sioux and Mendota treaties, signed 1851.

Thanks for your information and the great website. I am going to google
"homestead" ond read up on it, so I can understand more. That must be why
none of my ancestors land was purchased any earlier than that, even though
they were in Minnesota at least five years before then.
