A cooperative organization called MELSA, to which all public libraries in
the Twin Cities belong, pays the subscriptions to a number of online
databases such as Ancestry Gold, and an automotive source called Alldata.
Note: some databases can only be used for free in a library at a library
terminal, due to the higher cost of these databases.
I would suggest that anyone enjoying such databases tell their librarians
that they like them. With Papa (Governor, to you folks out of state)
Pawlenty slashing the state budget, library services, etc. will be cut.
For those wanting a link to the Mpls catalog: www.mplib.org
--if you follow the Links button, you will find links to other libraries.
Another FYI:
The Index to (20?) years of the Mpls Journal newspaper in the early 1900's
was moved to the Minnesota History Center while the downtown library is
being torn down and re-built. I have had trouble finding some of the
citations, since not all versions of an edition are on the microfilm, but
it does index a Mpls newspaper from a period for which I know of no other
index.
Good luck!
