>I haven't seen an answer re Witt's moving, so thought I'd put in my two
cents. I lived on 13th and LaSalle and, in nice weather, walked home,
first
from Jefferson Junior High then West High between 1945 and 1949. We
often
stopped at Burch's for ice cream cones, but I don't remember Witt's
being
there, at least not on Hennepin Ave.
Thanks for writing. I thought if you looked at Burch's a little grocery
store was on their right. It wasn't big, that I remember. Maybe it
went by another name. I used to wait for a bus on that corner to take me
back to Minnetonka after choir practice at St. Paul's on Franklin.
(which isn't there anymore....they moved to Lake of the Isles) (btw, I
was in the 4th grade.....can you imagine sending today's youth on a bus
that distance? <G>)
We used to stop at Bridgeman's when leaving Jefferson JH. lol Our
little class of Burwell Grade School in Minnetonka/Hopkins back in the
50's when in our 9th year of school, were bused "all the way" to
Jefferson for that grade until we could attend the new Hopkins High
School in 1955-56.
Thanks for the memories.
