Have you checked the Minnesota Death Index for these folks? It would give
you date of death, where they were born, and mother's maiden name in most cases
since they were fairly recent.
Do you know where they are buried? If so you might get some information by
contacting the cemetery. Due to privacy laws they may not be able to give you
alot of information since the deaths are so recent. But I have found that it
depends on the cemetery. If they can tell you the name of the mortuary that
handled the arrangements then you might locate what church they were affiliated
with, and contact the church for assistance.

But confidentiality laws are quite strict so finding information on living
relatives is extremely difficult.

You might do a white pages search, using the internet, and look for families
with this last name that are in the Mineapolis area and then write them
personal letters asking if they are related to the people you are researching. The
Minneapolis-St Paul metropolitan area is approximately 2 million people so you
might find a few folks with the last name you are researching. You would need
to explain your relationship and maybe even provide proof as people are
getting pretty wary of such things due to all the identity theft and all.

Also, at the GenWeb site there are people who will do obituary look-ups. The
obituary would give you some helpful information as well.
