City Directories
Minneapolis city directories can be used to trace specific people and
businesses for the years from 1859 to the present. These directories
are especially helpful when you are looking for an address, name of
spouse, place of employment, business officers, and descriptions of
businesses. Beginning with the 1930 directory, people and businesses
can also be searched by address, and beginning with the 1968 directory,
by telephone number. City directories are also a source for information
on schools, cemeteries, churches, and fire stations.
Suburban and other Minnesota city directories are available at Central
Library.
The largest of the department's collections is the Minneapolis
Collection, which was created by the Library Board in 1940.

City directories on microfiche (1859-1999)
