LaVerne Carpenter
Funeral Held Monday
At St. Peter's Church

LaVerne Ross Carpenter, 79, of St. Peter, passed away Friday, August 26, at St. Peter Community hospital following an illness of over two years.

Funeral services were held Monday, August 29, from St. Peter's Catholic church at 10 a.m. with the Father Raymond Rypal officiating. The Children's choir sang the Mass. Burial was in Calvery cemetery at St. Peter's.

Pallbearers were Paul Vetter, Eugene Fisetta, John Mongola, Donald Leasure, Gary Schweitzer, a grandson, and Jeffrey Maxwell.

LaVerne Ross Carpenter was born March 24, 1887 in Eldred, Pennsylvania, the son of Ervin L. and Vernetta Larrabee Carpenter. He was one of seven children; two brothers, Leon and Forrest, and four sisters, Erma, Fay, Alma, and Vera, all preceded him in death, as did his parents.

He attended grade school and high school in Eldred, Pennsylvania and in 1919 he came to St. Peter. On April 15, 1920 he was united in marriage to Theresa Marie Spokes at St. Mary's Catholic church by the Father J. M. Mamer. For a short while he was engaged in farming and then began working at the St. Peter State hospital where he worked until 1957 when he retired. He was also known for his hobby of bee-keeping.

Survivors include his wife, Theresa; two sons, Leon of St. Paul and David of Moorhead; four daughters, Mrs. Raymond E. (Evelyn) Stolt of St. Peter, Mrs. James (Rosamond) Terrell of Sacramento, California, Mrs. Fred (Barbara) Maxwell of North Mankato, and Mrs. John S. (Dorothy) Dotolo of Minneapolis; twenty-two grandchildren, and one great-grandchild.
