NARROWLY EXCAPED DEATH
RACHAEL AND EDGAR TRUDEAU VICTIMS OF THRESHING MACHINE ACCIDENT, BOTH WERE
PINIONED BETWEEN FIREBOX AND SEPARATOR IN A RAVINE ON MONDAY LAST

On Monday last Raphael Trudeau, engineer, and his son Edgar, fireman, on
the same threshing engine, were seriously injured, and the separator man
narrowly escaped being hurt, but jumped in time, in a peculiar accident
near Gentilly in Polk county.
It was desired to move a threshing outfit across a ravine. The engine pulled
across first and the separator was run to the middle of the depression
by hand. The engine then backed down with the intention of coupling on
and hauling the machine across. The engineer could not stop it, however,
as it neared the machine, and Engineer Trudeau was crushed between the
firebox and the self feeder, while the fireman jumped but had his hand
caught and badly crushed. It was several minutes before the men could release
the two injured men.
The separator man leaped to the ground just in time or he would have been
killed.
