William's father was George, and George did divorce Mehitible in New Albany, Indiana but I have not been able to verify that Mehitible was William's mother. In the divorce papers Mehitible's maiden name was not mentioned. William was born in Bedford, New York in 1818 but I have not found any verification other than William's written statement. He listed the names of his children but not his parents names. By 1819 George and William lived in New Albany and George was listed there in the census of 1820. George's father, Gould, is listed in the same census. It is believed that William was raised by his aunt (George's sister) Mary Ann Silliman Jones (wife of Epaphras Jones). This Mary Ann mentioned William as her nephew in her will and left her home to William upon the death of her husband. There was a Mary Ann Silliman Ayres also in New Albany at the same time as Mary Ann Jones. This Mary Ann was the daughter of William Silliman who was the oldest son of Gen. Gold Selleck Sillim!
an. This William was first cousin of Gould, and Mary Ann Silliman Ayres was 2nd cousin of Mary Ann Silliman Jones. William came to New Albany in 1816 along with his wife Phoebe and two of his daughters, Mary Ann and Catherine, intending to join another daughter, Nancy (Patty) who had moved to Louisville in 1815 with her husband. Both William and Phoebe died soon after they arrived in New Albany and are buried there in the family plot of Mary Ann Ayres. I have been looking for verification of the birth of George and of William for years but with no success. Also of the marriage of George.
