Hello! I have only recently discovered that Rice County can be a rich source of information about some of my ancestors. I
know a fair amount about the
ones who settled in Pipestone and Lyon counties.

Sigfinnur Pjetursson (PETERSON) and Sigurbjorg Sigurdottir came from Iceland in 1878 and settled in Lyon County with their
combined families.

I have not yet located the immigrant ancestors of the ALDRICH, WAIT and WHALLON families who settled in Rice County.

The WAIT and WHALLON families were farmers who went from unknown locations in New York to adjacent properties in Will County,
Illinois and
from there to Rice County:

Joseph B. WAIT (born circa 1813 in New York) purchased Illinois property in 1842 and married Mary Caroline WHALLON (born circa
1826 in New
York) 28 August 1842 in Will County, Illinois. Children born in Illinois included Eliza Ann (born 29 July 1843) and Olivia
Minerva (born September
1849). The family moved to Rice County prior to the 1859 marriage of Eliza Ann to Levi ALDRICH. Their son, Henry S. was born
in Minnesota in
1863. Mary died 18 March 1874. Joseph remarried in 1876 and died 6 October 1894. Both were buried in the Warsaw Cemetery.
Henry was killed
by a tornado in 1900 in Morristown, Rice County, MN. Olivia married James F. Hardy (a farmer) in 1869 in Warsaw, Rice County,
MN. They moved
to Iowa around 1900 to be with their son, James H. Hardy; their daughter, Cora Daisy, married Elmer L. Peterson( in Morristown
in 1900) and
subsequently moved to Pelican Rapids Village, Otter Tail, MN. See Aldrich below regarding Eliza Ann.

Samuel WHALLON (born circa 1782 in New York, died 1873 in Illinois) and Sally (born circa 1789 in Vermont, died 1850 in
DuPage, Will County,
Illinois) were the parents of Martin S. Whallon (born 1824 in New York), Mary Carolyn (born 1826 in New York), Olivia S. (born
1828 in New
York), and Charles H. (born 1831 in New York). The family moved to DuPage around 1833-35. Samuel served several terms as
county commissioner
as well as working his farm. Sally died in 1850 and Samuel died in 1873. At least three of the children moved from Illinois
to Rice County, Minnesota in
the 1850's. Martin S. served in 1 Minnesota Infantry , was captured and died (1864?). He was buried in Bloomington, Rice
County, Minnesota. Mary
Carolyn and Joseph Wait moved to Warsaw, Rice County, Minnesota (see above).

Salomon B. ALDRICH (born circa 1797 in New York?) and Martha Crane Aldrich (born circa 1797 in Massachusetts) were married
around 1822.
Children born in New York included Levi Burrell (1834), Polly Angelina (1835), George W. (1836), and Ira Crane (1839). I do
not know when the
family moved to Minnesota or whether there was an interim stop. Salomon and at least several of his sons were carpenters.
Levi married Eliza Ann
WAIT 29 July 1859 in the home of Joseph B. Wait in Rice County, Minnesota. The 1860 census sources I have consulted are too
light to read but I
assume that they were all still in Rice County since the 1870 census for Minnesota, Rice, Township of Warsaw included Solomon
and Martha, George
and his family, William (relationship not yet known), and Levi B., Eliza A., Elmer E., Mary E., & Carrie E. Salomon died in
1872 and Martha died in
1891 in Warsaw. Levi and Eliza Wait Aldrich moved to Pipestone, Pipestone, MN in 1879, where they tragically lost two
children: Elmer, who
accidentally shot himself and Ruth Carrie, who died of typhoid. Elmer and Ruth were the first two buried in the Pipestone
cemetery. Levi died in 1896
of complications from old Civil War injuries and is buried in the Pipestone cemetery. Eliza lived with her daughters in
Minnesota and Oregon, died in
Minneapolis and is buried in the family plot in Pipestone.

There is a lot of information available on Levi and Eliza Wait Aldrich. I hope to find similar information about the Wait and
Whallon families, as well as
take the lines back into New York and beyond.

I welcome any information you may have about these families.
