Death of Peter J. Weldon Last Week Caused General Regret Here

The death of Peter J. Weldon last week was keenly felt by the entire community and the funeral obsequies on Friday were a remarkable manifestation of the high regard in which he was held by all. Of gentle disposition, sincere and loyal, he was the friend of everyone in Belle Plaine.
He was born on the old homestead in Blakeley township 42 years ago. There he spent his early boyhood until the age of 12 when his father bought the farm adjoining Belle Plaine. As soon as he could, he became a school teacher and for 14 years he taught the youth of the adjoining districts, and during vacations keeping up in his industrious way, much of the work on the farm. On Oct. 11, 1905 he was married to Bridget McDevitt. About a year ago, owing to his failing health, they retired from the farm. He continued to decline slowly and on Wed. April 21, he breathed his last. His father preceded him by only eleven months.
Besides his wife, he is survived by three brothers; Matt, Thomas, and William and by three sisters, Mrs. T.F. Shaughnessy, Mrs. M.P. O’Connor and Mrs. Maurice Moriarity.
He was a member of the Belle Plaine Fire Dept. since 1894, a charter member of the local court C.O.F., and also a member of the Knights of Columbus, the three organizations attending the funeral in a body.
Guests for the funeral included: Mr and Mrs. J.F. Morgan of St. Paul, Mr. and Mrs. R.M. Mechtel of St. Paul, Mr. and Mrs. James Divine of St. Paul, Mrs. Patrick Weldon, Patrick O’Neill, John McDevitt, Mrs. John O’Brien, Matt Weldon of Hopkins, Michael C. O’Neill of Chokio, Dr. and Mrs L.J. McDevitt of Cannon Falls, Misses Mae and Myrtle Corcoran of Minneota, Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Shaughnessy, Mr. and Mrs. Steve Shaughnessy of Jessenland , and many others.

Burial was in Sacred Heart Cemetery, Belle Plaine.
