Hello List,
I have just added some offers on the LOOKUP pages on the Scott County Genweb site http://www.rootsweb.com/~mnscott/index.htm
Gene Barnes has offered to do lookups in the book "Old Rail Fence Corners". I've created an index to this book and added a link for it on the page. This is a really interesting and fun book to read. Published originally in 1914 by Lucy Leavenworth Wilder Morris, it contains interviews with many of the earliest settlers of Minnesota. The book has been reprinted many times and is still available to purchase. A review of it is posted on the MN History Center website http://www.mnhs.org/market/mhspress/products/0873511093.html
Even if you don't find one of your ancestors, the stories still make great reading and will give you an idea of what your own family might have lived through back in the "old days". Many stories of the Sioux Uprising in the Minnesota Valley, with lots of names mentioned that aren't in the index. Check out the index and maybe you'll find one of your ancestors in the book. There are 324 pages.
Another offer:
Sandy Louden will do lookups in the 1900, 1920 and 1930 Federal Census for Scott County families. She also does obituary lookups and will get copies of the original death records at the MN Historical Society in St. Paul. She's been doing this for Hennepin County for over a year and offered to take Scott County---at my request!! lol. She's very good at finding those obituaries that are just stuck on a random page, as they used to list them in the older newspapers. Her offer is listed on the LOOKUPS page under DEATH RECORDS. Please read her guidelines carefully before sending her a request, and make SURE you put "MINNESOTA LOOKUPS" in the subject of the e-mail or it may get deleted. The census lookups are FREE, but she does ask a modest fee for the obits and death records.
Good Luck in your searches!
