Joe, you've probably had an answer from Anna by now (I've just started looking at ancestry.com today), but anyway, your Maria Pick SCHAEFER is definitely the daughter of John (or Johan) Peter PICK and Margaret (Margarethe) THELEN. She is my GGG Aunt. Our data all matches (though I have the wedding date as 25 Dec., but yours may well be right). I don't know anything about her offspring (nor of Wilhelm's subsequent marriage) and would be pleased to -- just have that she died 22 Nov. 1861 and was buried 1 Jan. 1862 in St. Joseph's Cemetery. My source says, "probably died in childbirth". (My source is a hand-typed document of some length called "The John Peter Pick Family" by Sister Helen Margaret, who is somewhere in the family but I don't recall where -- am only a very sporadic genealogist.)
Caspar Pick was indeed Maria's brother. (Both were born in Berndorf.) I have Caspar and Gertrude Goeser's wedding on the same date you both do, in Johnsburg. Here's some other info I have on Caspar:
"after traveling to Minnesota in 1958, he returned to marry Gertrude Goeser. Marriage was recorded both in bride's parish in Johnsburg and groom's in Jacobs Prairie -- assume marriage occurred in WI. Text of the marriage record in Johnsburg is:
"Eadem die matrimonii vinculi conjunxi: Kasparum Pick, filium Petri pick et Margarethae Thelen, ex Berndorf, reg. -- Trevirensci, et Gertrudam Goeser, filiam Stephani Goeser et Catherinae Kurt, ex Buderath, reg. Aachen."
apparently he fled to Canada to avoid fighting the south in the Civil War -- believed Southerners would abolish slavery themselves, and that the North was mainly interested in profiteering on runaway slaves"
I have more info on Maria's (and Caspar's) ancestors, as well as on various descendents of Maria's siblings. I will be happy to share if you wish. I will answer Anna's note separately in case she doesn't read this, and I hope she will share what she has with me.
