In looking at the book "A History of Yellow Medicine County MN 1872-1972, by Narvestad

Page 408 Clarkfield Village

Lawrence A. Cliffgard and his widowed mother Annie came to Clarkfield in 1924 and started in the restaurant business. Annie died in 1937, but her son continued the business until 1957. He died June 11, 1971 at the age of 71.

It was the only Cliffgard listed in the index. Hope this helps.
