Last December I went to visit my 3rd great grandparents graves on the "old
Purdle place" at Lowassie, in Shannon County Missouri. The farm now belongs
to the son of Raymond "Red" Norris and one must get permission from Red or
his son to visit the site. The gravestone of Teresa Neal Snider was barely
readable and someone had carved through the date trying to high light the
date of birth and death and caused them to read incorrectly. The gravestone
of her husband James Snider is totally unreadable. You can tell that there
are probably other graves at this small cemetery but only stones mark them.
I suspect that they may be the infant children of James and Teresa listed
below.

I am hoping to go back up to MO in Oct. again and see if they won't let us do
some restoration work on the site.

If any one out there has more information on who else is buried at this site
I would like to here from you. Would also be interested in finding out who
put the last restored stone on Teresa Neal Snider's grave.

JAMES SNIDER (JOHN WALKER 3, GEORGE 2, JOHANN GEORG 1 SCHNEIDER) was born May
08, 1830, in Tennessee, and died September 07, 1895, in Shannon County,
Missouri. He is buried at Lowassie next to his wife Teresa. He married (2)
TERESA NEAL February 23, 1865, in Carter Co., MO, daughter of ROBERT NEAL and
NANCY HENDERSON. She was born November 27, 1844, in Missouri, and died
November 04, 1888, in Shannon County, Missouri. James was married first to
REBECCA MONTGOMERY August 02, 1855, in Oregon City, MO. She was born
Unknown, and died Bet. 1860 - 1865.

>From MoSGA Spring 1997: 14 Sep 1895, p1: Peggy Pegs. James Snider, brother
to Henderson Snider, died last Saturday. See note. MoSGA editors warning
that articles received late appeared in the following week's paper. This
would make the range for date of death Aug 31 or Sep 7.
